Morus Gwen
Enids
Smoke
Pearls
The only stud of this wonderful breed in Wales
The perfect pet aswell as a lovely show rabbit
Enid decided she wanted a new challange of her own with a breed that was totaly new to Castle Bunnies. So after looking at several breeds whilst out and about at shows, it was decided she would like something other than lops or fancy, so that narrowed it down to rex, fur or a rare breed. Then we saw an advert for a smoke pearl for sale and just like me with my red mini lops she knew this was the breed and her new challange.
So enquries began and thanks to Becky at Moorecroft Stud (who has provided us with foundation stock and kind permission to use photos and information off her site, see link on our links page) Enid`s project of owning a small stud of this I must confess adorable rabbit is one step closer.
The colour of smoke pearls are shades of blue/gray with a white trim known as martin smoke and without the white trim is a siamese. There is one more colour, a white , though not standardised these are helpful when breeding and can be shown in unstandardised classes, aswell as making an adorable pet rabbit.
Smoke Pearls are a native breed of Scotland sadly near to extinction with only around six breeders left in the UK and only fifty breeding pairs. Having only owned ours for a short while it is hard to see why, as they have the apperance that just makes you want to cuddle them. They are so docile and amenable and are an ideal choice for a childs first pet rabbit much more suitable than the more popular dwarf breeds and not much bigger, about the same size as a dwarf lop. They make ideal house rabbits aswell as outdoor rabbits.
We are very grateful to Becky for allowing us to have some of her stock to help Enid's project and we look forward to doing our bit to try and help this amazing breed stay around for a lot lot longer.
The Bucks
Morus
%20(WinCE).jpg)
This is Lance now renamed Morus our Smoke Pearl buck he is of nice type but a bit on the large size and does lack shading on his back and his coat is a little harsh though it has improved as he comes out of his latest moult.
The Does

Blodwen this is our white Smoke Peal doe she has a good coat so it is hoped it will improve the little ones this mating may not improve the shadings so the introduction of a medium sable in the next genaration should help with this if needed
%20(WinCE).jpg)
One of the first Smoke Pearls bred here at Castle Bunnies and it is hoped she will go on to form the foundation of Enids Smoked pearls but in the mean time Enid may be taking her out to the odd show from time to time,

We have also dicided to keep this doe for the program she has a real nice dence coat witch we feel could be a asset further into the project,
We have named her Castles Olwyn
The white smoke pearl is not a standerdised colour so therefore can not be shown in smoke pearl classes at shows, tho they can be shown in unstanderdised classes or pet classes, and are very usefull in a smoke pearl breeding program,
they make perfect pets and are very good candidates for house rabbits, smoke pearls are one of the few slightly larger rabbits recomended for a child because of there placid laid back temprements,
Blodwen has our second litter of Smoke Pearls in the nest so keep watching this space !!!!
